Porcelain Capital: Jingdezhen Video

A friend said she’d like to go to Jingdezhen, China, so I thought we’d do a little armchair traveling today. I rather like this video, as it shows the hustle and bustle of this famous city whose inhabitants began working with porcelain during the Han Dynasty. I especially like the part where a buyer is haggling with an artisan. I have a pet peeve about tourists fleecing others while traveling, especially if what’s being sold is handmade and has taken much time or skill to produce. Granted, tourists also get taken, but many times it’s the other way around. So, I like that this man stood his ground. I also enjoyed seeing the woman doing brushwork in calm surroundings or during a down time at a factory that makes humongous urns and vessels. As well, it was nice to see the elderly man throwing off the hump, producing many bowls. This video segues into the next and I think there’s another prior, if you’re interested. By the way, if you have story ideas you would like me to cover, wing them by me!
