Granite sinks, glass sinks, clay sinks, copper sinks. Designer basins hit the home shows about five years ago. I’ve seen some gorgeous ones and have oohed and ahed over a number of them. It never occurred to me that I could make one myself. It is now on my agenda for a project. For me, it will mean using a drape mold, as I’m no longer throwing, but that is fine. Maybe in late summer…. I found a good demo by Mark Knott and thought you’d like it, too. He throws a low cylinder, then concentrates solely on the interior. The first video is about 10-minutes long, so loses sound at a certain point, but one can clearly see what he does throughout. Knott’s basin is smallish and has a substantial lip. He uses a giant rib, the likes of which I’ve never seen before, as he carefully works on the inner well. Another video follows, one showing him trimming what looks like a smaller basin. Enjoy! I’ll follow up with more on this subject.
