Guest Bloggers Wanted for Daily Ceramics Blog

Do you want to write, but don’t have the time to create your own blog? Do you have plenty to say and want an opportunity to express yourself? Jane Street Clayworks is expanding coverage and is looking for casual and regular guest bloggers. JSCW is a daily blog which focuses on ceramics and pottery, yet its scope is very wide.

I’m looking for people who adore writing and are actively involved with ceramics. While this blog is not a paying proposition, you will earn portfolio pieces, exposure, and an additional entry on your resume. It is possible that guest blog positions may evolve to regular author roles on JSCW, with your own permanent byline and avatar.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated writing ability and use of spell and grammar checkers,
  • Very readable viral writing style or ability to develop a viral style,
  • Excellent job-related interpersonal communication skills,
  • Good intercultural communication skills,
  • Ability to meet deadlines on time; good organizational and time management skills,
  • Understanding that, along with copy and on deadline, guest bloggers submit URLs to links and provide photos and audio-visuals; JSCW will provide clip art. All artwork submitted must be copyright free.

To get a feel for what JSCW does, scroll through the pages and categories. Topics I would like covered by guest bloggers include but are not limited to:

  • how-to-do-it…instructive posts which teach methods…using logically organized copy or copy and videos,
  • personal writing about your own ceramics work,
  • feature stories on figures central to the ceramics field, past and present,
  • introspective pieces about your approach to ceramics and aims,
  • stories on hand building, throwing, sculpture, mixed media (of which clay is central), techniques,
  • stories on clays, glazes, decorative techniques,
  • community arts writing, and
  • intercultural, historical, and geographical explorations related to clay.

Also:

  • stories about creativity and the creative process,
  • cutting edge stories on the neurology, psychology of creativity, and
  • our personal experiences with the creativity.

I am looking for well-meaning, reliable people with a good sense of humor.  In addition, I’m Mac-based, If you’re PC-based, there may be some technical incompatibilities, but we can work around it.

The closing date for applications is Tuesday, February 22nd at 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. Please send an e-mail to Jan at  janestreetclayworks@gmail.com telling me why you’d like to write for JSCW and submit samples of published writing, web-based or print or, if you have no published writing,  samples of unpublished writing in final draft stage.
